Ontario Arts Council Theatre Creator's Reserve

Obsidian Theatre is thrilled to be a recommender for the Ontario Arts
Council’s Theatre Creators Reserve program.

Obsidian Theatre Company is passionately dedicated to the exploration, development, and production of the Black voice. Obsidian provides
artistic support, promoting the development of work by Black theatre
makers and offering training opportunities through mentoring and
apprenticeship programs for emerging Black artists.

The TCR program funds individual theatre creators and informal
collectives of creators by funding them in the development of new
work. The TCR is a third-party recommender program – the recommenders
receive allocated funds, and receive submissions directly from the
individual artist which are assessed and the recommendations are sent
to the Ontario Arts Council for authorization and payment.

What is it for?

The Theatre Creators Reserve program provides individual theatre
creators or collectives with funds to sustain themselves during the
creation period. This grant can be used as an opportunity to work on
the first draft of a piece, and is a rare chance to have the time to
explore and create. With the TCR program, individuals can apply for a
minimum of $1000.00 and a maximum of $5000.00. Applicants may not
receive the full amount of their request.

Who can apply?

Obsidian Theatre Company accepts all applications for the Theatre
Creators’ Reserve, however preference will be given to those
applications that fulfill and reflect our mandate.
