Building and Endowment Fund

The Future of the Obsidian Theatre Company - Help Us Build a Home for Obsidian 

Building Fund 

We have long had a dream of a permanent home for Obsidian - a theatre for the work of all artists in the Black community. Since Obsidian's inception, we have committed 20% of every individual's donation toward our dream building.

 What is an Endowment Fund? It is money that is held in trust for an organization by a third party. In our case, it is the Ontario Arts Council Endowment Foundation. 

Every year, the interest derived from the fund is distributed to us for use in any way we choose. We never touch the principle so the money is held forever for the organization's use. 

Under the rules for companies at our funding level we are able to raise money, have it matched and still retain the original amount for our day to day operations. This allows us to grow our Endowment Fund without affecting our operating budget.
